Reel & Rudder Chapter 1

Allow me to reintroduce myself - Jay Z may have said it better than us, but we bring the same passion. We're a couple of guys who really like to kayak fish. We do a lot of our fishing together (at least we did, before we started embarking on this journey) and we like to push the limits. About us:

David:

My passion for fishing began at the age of two, guided by my grandmother, who taught me the basics of casting a line and feeling the rhythm of the water. From those early moments, I was hooked not just on the thrill of the catch but on the endless lessons fishing had to offer. As I grew older, my dedication deepened. I spent countless hours researching different techniques, studying fish behavior, and practicing on the water. Every trip was an opportunity to learn, refine my skills, and challenge myself. In 2018, eager to expand my horizons, I took a leap and purchased my first kayak. It was a game changer, opening up a whole new world of saltwater fishing. Kayak fishing required a new level of strategy and adaptability, and I embraced the challenge with optimism. Over the years, my passion has taken me across the country, targeting an incredible variety of species from the acrobatic tarpon to the powerful tuna, the elusive striped bass, and the many fascinating wreck fish found both in deep and shallow waters. Each journey has been an adventure, each catch a story of perseverance and skill. Fishing isn’t just a pastime, it’s a lifelong pursuit, a connection to nature, and a constant source of discovery. From that first trip to the vast waters I explore today, this journey has shaped who I am and there’s still so much more to experience.

Scott:

I started fishing in childhood early childhood with my old man and discovered kayak fishing in 2016. Over the years, I have owned a variety of kayaks and currently fishes from a Hobie Pro Angler 12. my adventures take me from Cape Cod in pursuit of giant sea bass to the Chesapeake Bay for drum and sheepshead, and down to Florida for blackfin tuna and grouper. Before COVID, I worked as a chef, a career that allowed me to move all over the country with ease. After being laid off, I shifted gears and began working next door at Grumpys Tackle, launching my career in the fishing industry. I started a kayak charter company with two friends called Inshore Outfitters Kayak Charters and now, with the opportunity to start take over this business, I'm ready for the next adventure in pushing kayak fishing to the next level! I can be found targeting fish all over the east coast from Amberjack to Zebrafish. I'm Extremely conservation minded and I'm an active member of the Berkeley Striper Club where I ran the spring Striped Bass Catch and Release tournament for three years. I'm the founder and president of Tupperware Navy. I love to teach and do a lot of volunteering with the NJ Dept of Fishing and Wildlife teaching Surf and Kayak fishing classes, and also do programs with Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs, and Sisters Afield
